About me

Jorge Nicolás Plaza

Freelance illustrator and professional graphic designer specializing in digital illustration, character design, concept art, and video game art.

I was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, and studied Graphic Design. While pursuing my degree, I simultaneously developed my career as an illustrator, focusing on character design, concept art, and commercial illustration.

After graduating, I had the opportunity to work for Chilean game studios, contributing in areas such as character design, concept art, user interface (UI) design, and art direction. Later, I also worked in the e-learning industry, creating graphic assets for online training courses, including infographics, animations, and digital educational content.

I currently live in Santiago, Chile, and work as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Over the past several years, I have collaborated with companies and private clients on projects related to video games, education, digital illustration, and visual communication.

I am interested in continuing to collaborate with game studios, creative agencies, e-learning companies, and organizations that require professional illustration, graphic design, concept art, and visual development services. I am available for remote work with clients across Chile, Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia.

I invite you to explore my professional background below, where you can learn more about my experience, as well as discover personal projects and client work.

Influences

Since I was 18 years old, when I began to dedicate myself to drawing professionally, I have constantly been exploring and observing the work of both local and international artists. Some of the influences that have left a mark on me include Jamie Hewlett, the lead illustrator of the band Gorillaz; Jhonen Vasquez, the creator of the comic and animated series Invader Zim; and various artists and animators who have worked for Pixar Animation Studios.

Locally, illustrators such as Karla Díaz and Sergio “Peerro” Lantadilla have also been sources of inspiration. Recently, one of the most significant influences I have studied has been the work of Michael D. Mattesi, particularly in anatomy and dynamic drawing, after reading his book Force Dynamic Life Drawing.

From an aesthetic point of view, I have always enjoyed blending elements from both Western and Eastern styles. Thus, discovering new artists and works has always been an adventure. Currently, I am fascinated by the work of mangaka Naoki Urasawa.
