About me

Jorge Nicolás Plaza

Freelance illustrator and professional graphic designer specializing in concept art and 2D illustration for video games.

Born in Viña del Mar, Chile, I have been passionate about drawing since early childhood, filling notebooks with sketches inspired by my favorite things and the countless ideas that came to me while daydreaming.

As I grew older, my interest in art deepened, leading me to pursue a professional degree in graphic design. This allowed me to develop skills in various design and illustration-related areas while continuing to work independently on my art.

After completing my studies, I set a clear goal for myself: to work as an illustrator and learn as much as possible. This ambition has driven me to collaborate with different companies and clients across various fields, from concept art and animation to game interface design and art direction.

Bringing ideas and stories to life through my work is one of the most fulfilling experiences I can imagine.

Influences

Since I was 18 years old, when I began to dedicate myself to drawing professionally, I have constantly been exploring and observing the work of both local and international artists. Some of the influences that have left a mark on me include Jamie Hewlett, the lead illustrator of the band Gorillaz; Jhonen Vasquez, the creator of the comic and animated series Invader Zim; and various artists and animators who have worked for Pixar Animation Studios.

Locally, illustrators such as Karla Díaz and Sergio “Peerro” Lantadilla have also been sources of inspiration. Recently, one of the most significant influences I have studied has been the work of Michael D. Mattesi, particularly in anatomy and dynamic drawing, after reading his book Force Dynamic Life Drawing.

From an aesthetic point of view, I have always enjoyed blending elements from both Western and Eastern styles. Thus, discovering new artists and works has always been an adventure. Currently, I am fascinated by the work of mangaka Naoki Urasawa.
